Head Coach Pierre was approached by Lee Chandler, Director of K9 Patrol, and tasked with developing a self defence course to help his employees to face dangerous situations with more confidence. After a number of meetings which included a visit to Sheffield to watch the dogs and their handlers in training, and a lot of hard work, the course was ready to be delivered.

Eight delegates attended and after a brief introduction the three hour course was underway. The first hour was a powerpoint presentation looking at self defence law, fight or flight response, body language, assessing threat levels, flash points, and the use of force continuum. Then we looked at different ways of approaching physical confrontation, bearing in mind at all times what is reasonable in the circumstances.

After the theory came the gym session in which we did some role plays to highlight the importance and links between body language and communication. We then moved on to practice a full range of techniques for a variety of situations which the delegates may, and in some cases already have, found themselves in.

Feedback on the course was unanimously positive and we will be running follow up training sessions in the future to consolidate this learning.

Many thanks to Lee, Kate, and all the delegates for all their hard work.
