Kris fights for World Title!
Kris gets fantastic draw against WAKO World Champion
Kris was offered an opportunity to travel to La Reunion, a French Colony close to Madagaskar, to fight for a World Pro-am Title. After being let down on the Doncaster Dome show that Sarah fought on, we decided it would be the right move before the Christmas Break.
After agreeing to go we stepped up the training, although it was difficult due to weather and work commitments. After doing as much as could be done Kris boarded the plane looking forward to a week in the sun.
On arrival he found out that it was an A-Class fight for a Pro World Title! Then he found out that his opponent had 30 fights. At the weigh in, however, his opponent was a little smaller and lighter.
Kris found out that his opponents name was Mickael Francoise, and he was WAKO World Champion! On researching the name I found that he had not only the WAKO Title but an InterContinental Title too! He had fought and beaten Jason Scerri (Aus) and Ibrahim Konate (Fra), and fought at Lumpini Stadium against Antuan Siangboxing where he fought under the name Mica Virapol.
Mickael's fights on Youtube show him to have very fast accurate hands and kicks, which he used to dismantle Ibrahim Konate! However, I felt that Kris would have the edge in strength and in the clinch.
Kris said that during the fight he pressured Mickael throughout, and although he could not compete with his speed, his relentless pressure and effect of his stronger blows brought him the tied result. He also said that he ran out of energy in the last two rounds and that if he had been fitter he would have brought home the title.
Mickael was interviewed after the fight by a local newspaper and said that Kris deserved the win. A sporting assesment by the Frenchman.
After the fight it became apparent that Mickael had a record of 70 fights. Which ever way you look at it this is an excellent achievement by a fighter with only 10 professional fights, of which only 5 have been A class.
Well Done Kris
