Josh and Kris compete in Oldham
Josh prepares for World Amateur Championships and Kris fights for WPMF British Title against Sam Wilson from Team Tieu in London
The venue for the fights was Tara Sports and Leisure Centre on the Siam Camp promotion.
Josh's opponent was from Spartan Camp in Middleton. They were matched over 3 rounds under amateur rules. Josh fought very maturely showing good timing and control. He stalked his opponent using his right hand to guage distance and whenever he came into range he was met by big roundhouse kicks, knees, and punches.
Josh took every round and his aim will be to score this well in the World Championships.
Kris's fight was the main event and proved to be a terrific fight. The fighters were evenly matched and the outcome would be keenly contested.
It began with neither fighter wanting to leave the centre of the ring. Tit for tat exchanges of kick and punch ensued, and it ended with them testing each others strength in the clinch.
As round 2 began, Kris started to increase the pressure slightly and found himself having to block some stinging kicks and punches as he moved forward. In return he countered with some jabs and good knees.
In round 3 Sam began well with good high and mid section kicks, although Kris landed his own kicks and finished well with good clinch and some spectacular flying knees.
Round 4 was Sams best round because he managed to avoid the clinch and scored with some good kicks, and landed a couple of really strong hooks. Kris managed to hide the effects of the hooks and still applied pressure.
Going into the last round both corners had the fight even, and so we asked Kris to dig deep and press forward for a round of relentless clinch. This he did with the crowd on their feet urging on both boxers. With about 1 minute to go Sam landed a fantastic hook which stiffened Kris for a second. After a quick "systems check" he pressed on again and took the last round and the WPMF British Title.
The judges decision was a points win for Kris, however it takes two to make such an entertaining fight so congratulations to Sam on a good performance.
