Great Show at the Manhattan Club
A terrific lineup of fights impress a good crowd at Kao Loi Show
The fight card for October's show looked good on paper and did not fail to live up to expectations. It was to be a chance for our juniors Harry Brecken and Ryan Grange, to show their budding skills in a no decision bout in front of a big crowd. Also chances for Mark Boyton and Jak Wright to test themselves after their hard training.
Harry and Ryan were first on and they both impressed. Harry used excellent kicks and straight punches, while Ryan closed the ground well (being the shorter of the two), catching the kicks and turning well in the clinch. After the 2nd round Ryan proclaimed "It's going well"!! A great contest for two fighters with exciting futures ahead.
Mark Boyton was our second fighter in action and faced a strong opponent in Stu Taylor from Aycliffe Thai Boxing. Both fighters weighed in at 74kg and the first round was even after both fighters scoring well with big punches and kicks. In the second round Mark (again the shorter) was forced to move through some big punches to close the range for his hooks. This lead to sustaining damage to his nose, although he still managed to land some good shots on Stu's chin. Mark ignored the damage and started the third positively until a cut opened on the bridge of his nose which ended the fight. Despite the loss, it was apparent that he has improved a lot since his last appearance, and Mark was happy with his performance.
Jak Wright was our last fighter on the bill, and his opponent was George Brent from Jai Muay Thai. The first round went well for Jak, who used his height advantage to the full, controlling range with teeps, and scoring with kicks and knees. George found his range in the second and managed to hurt Jak's leg. As soon as the damage was apparent George was merciless in attacking the same spot, and this gave him the second. Jak did very well to start the third as positively as his leg would allow, although the damage had been done and George won the fight on points.
Both of our fighters did the club proud in excellent close battles.
The rest of the show had some fantastic fights, none moreso than Chris Littlewood from Bad Company v Andy Simms from East Riding. Chris took the 1st with some very composed Thai Boxing, scoring well with his left kick. Andy then started to press the fight preferring to clich. The constant pressure tired Chris allowing Andy to score with some heavy punching. Chris showed unbelievable heart to soak up the pressure and come back with some good punching in the last round. However it was not enough to take the fight. The crowd loved it! A mammoth battle and a fitting way to end the show.
