Kao Loi, was started by head coach Pierre Mahon in 1997. The first personal training sessions and classes were held at the ABC Gym at Crimple Valley, Harrogate. In 1998 classes began at the Barbican Centre in York. Personal training in Leeds started shortly afterwards at the Bad Company Gym, home of Pierre’s friend, teacher and training partner, Richard Smith.
Although not still actively teaching in York it is a source of pride that the city now has a vibrant Muay Thai community due to Pierre's work there. Andy Wilby went on to form Way of Life, Dave Agutter York Thai Boxing, and Richard Cadden Chokdee Muay Thai, all of whom began training with Pierre at the Barbican.
Since these early days the club has gone from strength to strength, due partly to our coaching philosophy. Our goal has always been to help anyone who wishes to train in Muay Thai to achieve their aims. We recognise that they may vary from marginal weight loss to World Championship honours, but to that individual both aims are equally as important.
Kao Loi is registered with the English Muay Thai Federation (EMF), and our instructors with the Kru Muay Thai Association in Thailand.
We run group sessions in Harrogate at The Zone in Hornbeam Park on Monday, Wednesday, Friday. We also run sessions on Tuesday and Thursday at the Edge Health and Fitness Centre in Ripon.
Personal Training is also available with Kao Loi in Harrogate, Ripon, and Leeds, with many of our clients training with us for 8 years plus! We must be doing something right!! See our testimonials to see what our clients have said about Kao Loi.
